The Best Beaches on Thailand's Gulf Coast

Thailand's Gulf Coast stretches for hundreds of kilometres south of Bangkok, threading together a string of beaches that range from lively resort towns to stretches of sand so quiet you might have them entirely to yourself. Hua Hin has been Thailand's most beloved seaside escape since the 1920s, when the royal family established their summer palace here. The beach is long, wide, and lined with casuarina trees that provide welcome shade in the afternoon heat. Thirty kilometres south of Hua Hin, Pranburi marks the point where the Gulf Coast begins to feel genuinely remote. The Pranburi River Forest Park — a protected mangrove reserve — sits at the northern edge of the district, and the beaches here are backed by casuarina groves rather than hotel towers.

This is a landscape that rewards slow travel. Hire a bicycle, follow the coastal road south, and you will pass fishing villages, roadside seafood restaurants, and stretches of sand where the only footprints are your own.

At the southern tip of Pranburi district, where the river meets the sea, lies Pak Nam Pran. In 2026 it was named among the top 10 beaches in Thailand — recognition that locals and a small community of discerning visitors have long felt it deserved.

The beach here is extraordinary. The sand is pale and fine, the water a clear turquoise that deepens to cobalt further out, and the horizon is unbroken by development. Khao Kalok — a dramatic limestone headland — rises to the south, providing both a striking backdrop and a natural shelter that keeps the water calm for much of the year.
