Pak Nam Pran: The Complete Travel Guide

There is a particular kind of satisfaction in discovering a place before the crowds do. Pak Nam Pran — a small coastal village at the southern tip of Pranburi district, roughly three hours south of Bangkok — is that kind of place.

Named among the top 10 beaches in Thailand in 2026, it has begun to attract the attention it deserves. But for now, it remains genuinely quiet: a stretch of pale sand, clear turquoise water, and a horizon unbroken by high-rise hotels or beach clubs. Here is everything you need to know to visit.

Pak Nam Pran sits in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand. It is part of Pranburi district, which begins approximately 30 kilometres south of Hua Hin. The village itself sits at the mouth of the Pranburi River, where the river meets the sea — a location that gives it both a beautiful beach and access to the mangrove forests of the Pranburi River Forest Park.

The nearest town of any size is Pranburi, about 10 kilometres to the north. Hua Hin, with its wider range of restaurants, shops, and transport connections, is around 40 kilometres away.

Regular trains run from Bangkok's Hua Lamphong station to Pranburi, with the journey taking between three and four hours depending on the service. From Pranburi station, a local taxi or songthaew (shared pickup truck) will take you to Pak Nam Pran in around 20 minutes.

Air-conditioned buses depart from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) to Pranburi and Hua Hin throughout the day. Journey time is approximately three to four hours.

This is, above all else, a beach destination. The sand at Pak Nam Pran is fine and pale, the water clear and calm for much of the year, and the beach itself is long enough that you can walk for an hour without retracing your steps. Khao Kalok — a dramatic limestone headland — rises to the south, providing a striking backdrop and a natural shelter that keeps the sea gentle.

One of the most rewarding experiences in the area is a kayak or longtail boat trip through the mangrove forests of the Pranburi River. The forest park covers several thousand hectares and is home to a remarkable variety of birdlife. Early morning is the best time to go — the light is beautiful and the forest is at its most active.

The road that runs south from Pak Nam Pran towards Khao Kalok is one of the most beautiful cycling routes on the Gulf Coast. It passes through fishing villages, casuarina groves, and stretches of beach that are entirely deserted. The terrain is flat and the distances are manageable — a round trip to Khao Kalok and back takes around two hours at a leisurely pace.

Approximately 40 kilometres south of Pak Nam Pran, Sam Roi Yot National Park is one of Thailand's most dramatic landscapes. The park's centrepiece is Phraya Nakhon Cave — a vast cavern with a royal pavilion at its heart, reached by a short boat trip and a steep but rewarding climb. The park is also an important wetland habitat and a superb destination for birdwatching.

The seafood at Pak Nam Pran is exceptional. The village has a small cluster of restaurants near the river mouth that serve the morning's catch — grilled fish, steamed crab, and spicy seafood salads are the staples. For a more relaxed meal, several beachside restaurants along the main beach road offer a similar menu with sea views.

For a wider choice of restaurants, Hua Hin is worth the 40-kilometre drive. The town has a well-established dining scene ranging from excellent Thai street food to international restaurants.

The best time to visit Pak Nam Pran is between November and April, when the northeast monsoon brings dry skies, calm seas, and temperatures in the mid-to-high twenties. This is the high season, and the beach is at its most beautiful.
